Climate actions
Community payback for preventing floods
Objective
Prevent local floods (preventive measures).Description
Sometimes obstructed sewers may cause local floods (due to leaves or other debris), while cleaning operations are expensive and laborious. Removing leaf litter from drains helps to alleviate part of a flooding problem, generating awareness on simple preventive measures, and producing a valuable resource for composting activities. Indeed, all the collected leaves and debris can be turned into mulch and compost. Citizens can participate in the cleaning operations after good information about recycling management, environmental problems, climate change. At the same time, they can be compensated by local authorities for getting damaged.
